Imelda May at Leeds Academy - Imeldamazing!

I've been waiting for this gig since September as it was rescheduled.... and it was well worth the wait! I donned a floral dress and headed to Leeds Academy with Danny and it was a thoroughly brilliant night. If you ever get the chance to see Imelda and her band, then you simply must go! I love the fusion of rockabilly with a dash of jazz and blues and every song they played was fantastic.

Imelda's band is full of some seriously talented people - Darrel on lead guitar played some amazing solos. Then there was Al Gare on the double bass (visit his blog for back stage info from the road Here, Gare and Everywhere), Steve Rushton on the drums and Dave Priseman on the trumpet, percussion, horn and guitar. Of course there is Imelda herself too!

Imelda's voice was amazing. It can be disappointing to see a band play live where the vocals are a bit flat and don't sound like recorded material.... this was in no way the case for Imelda! Her voice, if anything, sounded better than the recorded songs.

They played all of my favourite songs from Mayhem and Love Tattoo - but I think the highlights, for me, were Big Bad Handsome Man (my ultimate fave!), Johnny Got a Boom Boom, Inside Out (both versions), Tainted Love, Psycho, Let Me Out, and Kentish Town Waltz.

Imelda looked amazing with her trademark two-tone quiff, red lipstick, curve-hugging gingham dress and some serious heels! The whole band just oozed cool.

Dollydagger - Gorgeous Retro Style Dresses - Floral, Forties and Frills!

I just love Dollydagger, I love their retro styled dresses and their cute and quirky accessories. I absolutely LOVE this dress!! Scarlet English Rose Dress for £130 Apparently the skirt has a whopping 5m of fabric to give it that beautiful very fifties shape. Love it!

Cherry Red Obsession Dress by Stop Staring for £163 I love the pleated waist-band and curve-hugging skirt... even if those two things don't necessarily love me! Even though it doesn't suit my body shape, it doesn't stop me loving it.

Red Star Print Party Dress for £55 this adorable dress comes with detachable straps (which is good for me, I can't wear strapless dresses) and in 5 different colours. Perfect for an upcoming party! I love the look of the this dress with a gorgeous frilly petticoat peeping out of the bottom.

Dollydagger - 50's polka dot dresses!

Well, it has been a little while since my last post, I've been a busy little bee! But, I got an email from one of my favourite websites, Dollydagger, and I got a little bit excited so I have found time to share it with you all... They have brought back their stock of beautiful polka dot 50's dresses!

I just absolutely love Dollydagger, I think that that has a little something to do with the fact that if I click on the "I just love... polka dots" link, it shows me every item of stock that has polka dots... something that comes in handy for a polka dot addict like myself!

The Baseballs - my favourite new band

I have officially found my new favourite band... The Baseballs. I have been eagerly awaiting their debut album, and I have not been disappointed! I love everything fifties, especially the music, and these three charming gents take modern songs and give them a fifties inspired make-over, with brilliant results!

The three rock and roll singers met in tea room in a heavy metal rehearsal bunker in Berlin, noticed their shared hairstyle, started jamming and formed The Baseballs. With pomade in their hair and the king in their voice they easily make their fifties styled cover songs sound like originals. Simply put this album is great fun! And I defy anyone to listen to the album through and not want to don a fifties circle skirt dress, red lipstick, heels and dance around the room! (if you are a man: substitute the dress, lippy and heels for a checked flannel shirt, comb in the back pocket and sideburns... unless of course the dress is your thing)
