Mad Men - I'm Mad About Their Style!

I know I am completely behind the times, but I've just caught up with the amazing series, Mad Men. I recently bought the series 1-4 boxset and have proceded to devour every episode. I love the style of the programme - but I particularly love the three main female character's outfits... oh and the womanising escapades of the handsome Donald Draper of course!

I love how completely different, Betty, Peggy and Joan's styles are... and if I were to say which style I was closest to, it'd have to be a mixture of Betty and Peggy. I'd love to be able to wear some of the gorgeous dresses that Joan wears but alas, I certainly haven't got the amazing figure to pull it off!

I love lots of the 50's dresses Betty wears, particularly in the first couple of series!

Joan's look favours figure-hugging dresses... I love the blue one above!

Which Man Men character sums up your vintage style best?

Coca Cola Ads From The 50's and 60's

I've been watching a lot of Mad Men... can you tell!? I have been kicking myself for not watching the series when it was on TV, so I bought the boxset series 1-4 and have spent the past few weeks catching up! It has made me appreciate the old ads from the 50's and 60's so much more. I love these old and retro-styled Coca Cola ads...

Dollydagger - Brighton Boutique and Bettie Page Dresses

Since Dollydagger opened their boutique shop in Brighton, I'd been eagerly awaiting my next trip home from uni (in Leeds) so I could visit it and see all the gorgeous dresses in the flesh. Last weekend I jumped on the train and headed along to Brighton for a day of fun with friends and so I tracked down their shop in the lanes and made a bee-line for the boutique! It was lovely to see some of the dresses I lust about on their website and it made me want them all the more! I think when I get my first proper wage in September I will have to treat myself to one! But in the meantime I will have to lust after the dresses on their website... including some of these lovely newbies in the "Bettie Page" collection... enjoy!

Graduation Ball Gown! Vivien of Holloway Dresses

It only just hit me today just how close my Graduation Ball is... and I suddenly thought, (and Danny will probably definitely disagree with this whole-heartedly) buuuuut... "I've got nothing to wear!"

I've just recieved my final (ever!) student loan instalment and after four long years of hard work I think I deserve to treat myself to something pretty and polka dotty. I've been lusting after a beautiful Vivien of Holloway dress since... oh... the beginning of time! So what better way to treat myself! I think the gorgeous red and white polka dot 50's halterneck dress above is my current favourite. Which one do you like best?

Double Dose of Polka Dots - Vivien of Holloway Dresses!

To kickstart your week with a bit of dotty delight I have some gorgeous red polka dot dresses for your viewing pleasure! One of my favourite shops in Leeds (and I only say "one of" because a Cath Kidston shop opened up recently and I literally cannot go into Leeds without oggling the beautiful things it harbours inside...) is Rose and Co. I wrote a guest post on my sister's blog (The Style PA) about it a while ago - Vintage Treats in Leeds. Not only do they have th most wonderful apothecary style shop on the main floor, they also have a whole world of gorgeousness if you go downstairs... they stock the most amazing polka dot dresses by the likes of Vivien of Holloway along with some vintage inspired hosiery and lingerie too. But for now lets just focus on the GORGEOUS polka dot dresses!

Dose number one!
Red Polka Dot Halter Dress - £69-99
How amazingly gorgeous is this halter dress?! VERY! I absolutely adore the vintage 50's style and the full circle skirt... not to mention the obvious love for the polka dot fabric! Also, if red isn't your colour but you don't want to sacrifice the polka dot design... then it comes in 9 different dotty designs! Which, I might add, is completely and utterly brilliant. Red and black, black and red, blue and white, pink and black, multi-coloured spots, spots large and small... I'll stop here before I get a bit too carried away! Basically you've got a plethora of polka dotty choices at your disposal.

Dose number two!
Polka Dot Tea Dress - £59
Here's yet another beautiful dotty delight courtesy of Vivien of Holloway. This time it's a lovely 40's style tea dress. I love this style of dress and it's actually quite a flattering cut on me. As much as I adore the 50's style of dosage numero uno, the shape only serves to accentuate my rather large bum a little too much for my liking! This lovely tea dress, alas, does not have the same multitude of polka dot fabric choices as the previous dress. However, it does come in a range of floral designs if polka dots aren't your thing (shock, horror! How could that be so?!)

Vintage Specs - 50s Eyewear

I love my glasses. I don't think I could really be persuaded to convert to contact lenses. My optician tries every time I go for an eye test and every time I can't bring myself to take the plunge. Mainly because putting things near my eyes freaks me out, it's expensive and I think I look a bit odd without glasses on! The only thing that I think could possibly persuade me to go for contacts is if my eyesight gets any worse and I need stronger glasses - currently my prescription is somthing like -8/9 in each eye (if that even means anything to you non-glasses wearing folk!) and the lenses are getting rather thick! But put simply, the world looks a bit like the photo below without my glasses on... I can't see people's faces unless their inches away from me and I certainly couldn't cross the road without running the risk of getting hit by a car. But anyway, I digress - here are some pretty vintage specs for you...

Vintage Blue Eye Cat Glasses - £50
I love this pair of specs. They're not too over the top, a lovely colour and quite similar style to glasses I usually go for, but with the 50's style wings.

Vintage Satin Cream Cat Eye Glasses - £60
I love these vintage frames, but I know for a fact that I couldn't pull them off, but no doubt there are many people out there who can!

50's Dresses For The Party Season!

The party season is now upon us! It's almost Christmas and New Year and there will be a multitude of occasions where a pretty dress is required. There's nothing I love more than an absolutely gorgeous 50's halter neck circle dress. I've got a beautiful black and white musical notes 50's circle dress that I cannot wait to unveil this Christmas! But if you havn't already got one knocking about in your wardrobe just dying to be worn for the party season, then there are some lovely ones over at Vivien Holloway!

Masquerade Print 50's Circle Dress

Skeleton Print 50's Circle dress

Skulls Print 50's Circle Dress
This one is possibly my favourite (I know, shock horror! It outranks the polka dot print!?)... If only I had the funds for such a delightful dress!

Style Icon - Katy Perry - I Want Her Hair!

I've been wanting to change my hairstyle for a while now... I LOVE vintage and rockabilly hairstyles and I've always wanted to have gorgeous hair to accompany my many pretty dresses.

But how does a mere mortal achieve such heavenly locks!? Especially one that has never really been that "into" hair. I don't own hair rollers, I never straighten my hair, I'll blow dry it occasionally but mostly I don't bother because my hair seems to do what ever it wants regardless of my efforts!

If I were to choose one hairstyle that I want the most, it would have to be this gorgeous hairstyle sported by none other than the lovely Katy Perry. But I wouldn't know where to begin on making my hair look even half as amazing as this... So this is where you lovely people come in...

I need your help!

How can I achieve this lovely hairstyle???? I need educating in the ways of pretty hair styling and quick. Too long have I suffered with my out-of-control and dull hair. I need a revamp!
