End of Teaching Placement - Cupcakes, Cupcakes, Cupcakes!

It was my last day of my final teaching placement on Friday and I did a spot of baking for the staff room. It was my first batch of cupcakes since before Christmas! So needless to say the boyfriend was pleased to have cakes in the house again :) I played the dutiful girlfriend and made him a cuppa with cake. I made some Chocolate, Cherry and Coconut cupcakes and some Carrot, Orange and Walnut Cupcakes and they went down a treat in the staff room!

I got some absolutely lovely little gifts from school on my last day. I was surprised and totally love them! I was given a cupcake trinket box (that is sitting happily amongst my other ones) a cucpake mug and coaster (for the staff room in my first teaching post) and some yummy praline chocolates. It was so lovely and generous of them!

Want to Commission yourself a piece of Art? Now's your chance!

As many of my Twitter friends are aware, I am going to be going to The Gambia in June 2011. I will be visiting a Gambian School representing the F.R.O.G.S charity (Friends of Gambian Schools) Where I will be, along with my fellow Primary Ed students from Leeds Trinity University, transforming classrooms into useable, vibrant learning environments. We will be painting the classrooms inside and out and painting their curriculum and learning resources onto their walls as they cannot afford books for the children and teachers. Here are a few photos of the hard work of previous students involved in the project: the difference they made to the school and the lives of the children was massive.

In order for me to be able to make a difference to this school, I need to raise £1000 before February. Alongside the fundraising I will be doing at university and back home, I am going to be selling paintings.

Have you ever wanted to commission a personalised piece of art? Well, now's your chance! I am going to be lending my artistic skills and creativity to the cause. If you look through my art below and like what you see and would like something similar (or something completely different!) send me an email (abehayden@hotmail.com) and I will create your piece of art. Alternatively you can go through my Etsy shop and "request custom item" from me.

Every single penny made will go towards my fundraising efforts to help Gambian schools. You will decide exactly how much you pay for your piece of art. As long as the cost of materials and postage is covered and at least £5 (or more depending on the piece) is going to the charity, you name your price.

So, if you want a drawing, painting, or something a little bit different, or you want to give a special Christmas present, please don't wait... email me now! Also, if you could share a link to this blog, or retweet my tweets if you are of the Twitter persuasion, it would be much appreciated!

Double Dose of Polka Dots - Rose and Co Lip Balm

Here is your Monday Double Dose of Polka Dots from your resident polka dot addict... me! I don't know about you, but I seem to have some form of polka-dot-sixth-sense whenI go shopping, I have a radar sense that can more or less only see polka dots. If there is a single item in a clothes shop that is dotty, then chances are I'll see it almost immediately upon entering the shop...

Dotty dose number one: My latest polka dot purchase. This lovely little lip balm is from my favourite shop in Leeds, Rose and Co. The shop is decked out as an old apothecary shop and filled ot the brim with delightful cosmetics, soaps, perfume, homeware and gifts. The "Strawberry Crush" lip balm comes in a cute pin-up style tin and smells so good you could almost eat it!

Dotty dose number two: Every good polka dot make-up purchase deserves to be stored away in in a pretty little polka dot make-up bag, and I found this handmade floral and polka dot make-up bag in SewLush's Etsy shop.

Birthday Cards - Alice in Wonderland and Cute Crayons

Something that I have always loved doing is handmaking birthday cards for friends and family, it gives a lovely personalised touch and makes it a little bit special. I've been feeling creative again and decided to make some cards to put into my Etsy shop... I've created two designs: one featuring crayons, the other featuring Alice in Wonderland.

I have used pages from Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass to create these birthday cards in a collage style.

Yummy Birthday Cards... Designed By Me!

It was a good friend's (who just so happens to also be a work colleague of mine) birthday the other day and I was entrusted with the task of creating a huge birthday card from everyone at work. It inspired me to start getting creative again and make a few little delights for my Etsy shop! I have combined two of my favourite things in these two birthday cards... polka dots and cake! Both cards are made with a variety of material, including polka dot ribbon, brown paper, and some little hand drawn sketches by my fair hands... check them out in my Etsy Shop - All About Abbie.

Let me know what you all think of my little creations... I'm going to delve deep into my creative supplies soon and make some more! I've started something now....

Dollydagger - Rob Ryan Beautifully Cute Cards

I stumbled across these lovely cards on Dollydagger's website They are designed by Rob Ryan for Roger le Borde and each and every one of them are adorable! The design is beautifully intricate and laser-cut. I am sorely tempted to buy some and frame them! Each card costs £2.35 (an absolute bargain in my opinion!) and while you are on the Dollydagger website buying cards, why not buy a gorgeous little polka dot gift box too!
