When I'm shopping for dresses there are certain features of a dress that seem to cause a blip on my radar. Mainly, I notice a dress if it's polka dotty! But also, I love a dress that has large buttons, bows, slouchy pockets, circle skirts, for it to go in just under the bust (the most flattering cut for me)... the list could go on. The only issue, however, is finding a dress that has all of the features that I love rolled into one garment. After seeing Katie's (AKA What Katie Found) gorgeous first attempt at making her own dress it dawned on me that I'm missing a trick here.
What I really need to be doing is to be putting my creativity to good use, get myself some sewing supplies, pick out my fabric and teach myself how to make dresses! That way I can get just what I want and make dresses that are made for me specifically! Being only 4'9'' I'm sometimes limited with what I can wear because the cut of more fitted dresses assume I'm a foot taller than I am and either come down to my ankles or don't fit properly across the back and the bust. But training myself up as an amateur dress maker would definitely solve the problem! I've just got to find the time and funds to do it now :D

Hey, Just stumbled across your blog, I love it. I started dressmaking this year and it gets rather addictive once you get into the swing of it. It does really give you everything you want from a dress though. Id definitely recommend "The Ultimate Sewing Bible", If you order it from amazon It can be really helpful with all those technical difficulties x
It's a great idea. I've made a few dresses and it is so rewarding!
Ooh! Thanks Megan! I shall seek it out! xx
Try looking locally for classes. I did a couple of terms at a local school relatively cheaply and it was SO useful, especially as patterns were like a foreign language! Either that or find a pal who already sews! I'm planning to crack back on with dressmaking (see recent post on my little newly established sewing area!)
I love that second dress! Where's it from?
